Paul Zauners Blue Brass feat. Dwight Trible is a fine example of the Nu Groove Feeling, in terms of its expressing fluidity and the bands relaxed yet tight arrangements. This is very ejoyable music that deserves serious listening and social engagement. I get an idea that these artists share a commitment to each other and the music they play. You can feel it. Mr. Trible has a masterful and original delivery. Blue Brass sounds like a genuine working band (it is something to rare in this music today) and Dwight sounds like he owns these songs, both the standards and the bands original compositions.
Mr. Zauner, who I consider a true friend and musical comrade, has created a wonder filled heart warming recording project. I thoroughly enjoyed the listening experience of this band and I can't wait to hear them live. This music reminds me of several unforgettable bands and at the same time Blue Brass is very original.
I hear things that remind me of the often overlooked Cannonball Adderley Bands, or the vocal Jazz arrangements from Doug Carms Bands, or the arrangements from the New Helsinki Orchestra, or the humor of Lester Bowies Roots to the Source as well as Malachi Thompsons progressive free Bop Bands (who by the way is featured as an arranger on "Drowning in my own tears"). Blue Brass is hear and very much now. This is a peoples music. Paul Zauner and Dwight Trible have successfully connected the heart to the mind, and this music really makes me feel like dancing.
The music is first and above all, a spirit force. For those who share this, we shall be one always in the spirit. The creator does have a master plan, peace and blessings to all.
